Rainbow of Possibilities

Image
At our meeting today we discussed our agreements and offered the question, "What can we do with our family people?"  MW - "I'm going to build a rainbow house. With rainbow people" With this suggestion, more and more children chimed in with rainbow suggestions. With a spark like this, it's the teachers jobs to document and observe. What are they saying? What are they doing? How are they interacting with the materials? As we document our noticings, it helps guide where we might go next.  Of course there are endless possibilities when you think about what opportunities rainbows hold. We web the many possibilities we come up with to drive our thinking. Children respond to some "languages" more than others. This gives us clues to their inquiry theories and insight into their thinking.  So today we offered a few ideas: What can you build with rainbow pieces? Can you color a rainbow? and Dance with the rainbow!  ___________________________________________...

Magnolia friends stuck together while playing Red LIght Green LIght in the collaboratory with Ms Julie.  we worked out bodies and brains.  Ms Julie had mentioned she could use some new signs to play the game with next time.  Our friends went right to work after the game, creating new Stop, Go and Slow signs.

First Caper Day!

Image
Today we had our first caper day of the school year!  On Wednesdays we combine with other classrooms to explore different spaces and materials in the other classroom spaces. Our brains all work together to try new things with new friends we don't get to see everyday! We partner with Sycamore and Birch on this adventure.  Children are able to flow freely between these rooms and the best part... they don't have to tell a teacher! They get to experience autonomy in a totally different way. This creates an opportunity to be protagonists in their own learning. Each child decides what question drives their curiosity which transforms into research. Research through play!

Forest Day

Before heading to the forest we read the book I Hear You, Forest.   The children were challenged with a question:  What do you hear in the forest?  We had quite a lot of responses throughout our morning as they played. M- I hear a bird. AHB- Buzz Buzz (while studying a bee) AN- I hear a lightning bug.  They make the sound I hear right now. BB- It tickles me! Brooke:  Hmm, leaves are moving.  What does that? J- It's the wind! P- I hear the wind.  And the grass. V- It's grass.  Grass. "Bye Forest!"
